Carlos Beltran Arechiga

About the work.
My artistic realm is rooted in a state of existential ambiguity, reflected in the fluctuating relationship between figuration and abstraction in my creations. My work expresses the tension between the gestural markings and structures, creating a dynamic visual experience. Through my art, I aim to explore both tangible and intangible structures that often shape the accessibility of resources and opportunities across various communities and economies.
The recurring edifices portrayed in my paintings symbolize the conventional "American Dream", however, the abstract, gestural markings serve to disrupt and question these preconceived notions, challenging the concept of a "Promised Land."

BIO
Born in Mexico City, Carlos began his art education at age six when he joined a classical music choir. At ten, he traveled with the choir to five European countries, gaining a deeper appreciation for the arts. He began painting at twelve and, although he later attended the Universidad de Guadalajara, he is a self-taught artist. After immigrating to the United States, Carlos worked for over a decade in environmental design and architecture, knowledge he continues to integrate into his studio practice.

His work is collected internationally and has been exhibited at numerous institutions, including The Cheech Museum, Torrance Art Museum, the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, and the Centre Culturel Abbaye de Neumünster in Luxembourg, as well as galleries in Greece, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Mexico, Serbia, and Albania. He is represented by Tufenkian Fine Arts in Los Angeles and 3 Punts in Barcelona, Spain.
